At Dreamforce 2022, Salesforce announced the launch of the Net Zero Marketplace, a platform that enables organizations to purchase carbon credits easily and transparently, allowing them to accelerate their positive impact on climate change. The platform allows customers to connect with environmentally focused entrepreneurs in a trusted marketplace that focuses on positive climate change.

What is a Carbon credit?

A Carbon credit is a certificate or permit that allows the holder to emit a certain amount of Carbon Dioxide or other greenhouse gases.

Why it’s important to buy carbon credits?

Wherever we live in this world, we are feeling that the pressures of climate change it is here. The sooner we act, the more we can slow down climate change, which impacts everyone. By purchasing carbon credits, you are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a stable climate for all of us.

According to a survey published by Salesforce, 8 out of 10 employees want to help their company by supporting sustainability, and 3 out of 5 employees are eager to include sustainability in their current role.

Sustainability – the fifth Salesforce value

Patrick Flynn, SVP, global head of sustainability at Salesforce, told VentureBeat that he recently added sustainability as the company’s fifth value, and that he has been actively using carbon credits for over 5 years.

One must start with emission reduction plans that consider not only your own operations but also the entire value chain consequences, including initiatives to catalyze systemic emission reduction effects beyond your value chain.” said Flynn.

Flynn also said that the Net Zero Marketplace will enable collaboration between individuals and organisations to build better carbon credit portfolios and use them as part of their climate sustainability strategies.

Net Zero also eliminates wasted time searching for a quality carbon credit by publishing reviews and ratings from other third parties, so organisations can choose the most suitable credits.

And for companies already using Net Zero Marketplace, credits can be integrated into the platform and tracked against actual emissions. Also, buyers will receive updates on the project, which encourages reinvestment.

How ecopreneurs drive creation of Carbon credits?

  1. Ecopreneur originates a carbon project (e.g. reforestation, grassland conservation, methane capture).
  2. Carbon project is certified as legitimate – by a government or independent body.
  3. Carbon project issues carbon credits – 1 carbon credit = 1 tonne of CO2, or equivalent GHG reduced or avoded.
  4. Carbon credits are made available for sale – via a broker and/or marketplace
  5. Organizations buy credits to compensate for emissions they can’t yet reduce – as part of a broader climate strategy.
  6. Investment allows ecopreneur to grow and scale positive impact – existing projects can continue and new projects can be developed.

So, the Salesforce’s vision for NetZero is the following:

  1. Everyone engages in climate action
  2. Carbon credit purchases become trusted and transparent
  3. They energize ”the Ecopreneur” revolution and scale impact

Reducing Carbon emissions is everyone’s business. Engage everyone in climate action.
